World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
